We4sea
Overview
Company: We4Sea
Location: Delft
Website: https://www.we4sea.com
Founder: Dan Veen
Short description
We4Sea, a maritime technology company focussed on increasing the fuel efficiency and lower the emissions of seagoing ships, has developed an advanced performance monitoring platform. It is our mission to provide shipowners and ship charterers with improved analysis tools and replace outdated noon-reports as the main source of management information.
We4Sea’s data-driven technology allows that any ship can be monitored on fuel consumption and emissions, and does not require any on-board monitoring equipment. The software solution supports full transparency in fuel consumption of ships and can be used to optimize fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.

With Sea Explorer, customers can access the world’s largest network of ocean freight services and make smart decisions to improve the velocity and agility of their supply chain. More than 63,000 port pairs across carriers incl. important domestic locations in the USA, China and Europe are interconnected; service information is validated by more than 200 million points per day.
bound4blue
Overview
Company: bound4blue
Location: Sta. Cruz de Bezan
Website: http://www.bound4blue.com/
Co-Founder: Cristina Aleixendri
Short description
bound4blue is a Spanish company whose mission is to deliver automated wind-assisted propulsion systems as a turn-key solution to all shipowners and operators looking to decrease their fuel-related costs and pollutant emissions. Their wingsails operate autonomously (so no extra crew or training is required), it can be orientated (so efficiency is maximised) and it is foldable to the ship’s deck (for security reasons, to sail under bridges or for loading and unloading operations).
The solution is suitable for both retrofitting and new build vessels and, thanks to its characteristics, the wingsail system fits most vessels (+80% of the fleet), meeting the case-by-case requirements of each customer to provide an optimized turn-key solution. This full adaptability enables the system to offer fuel consumption reductions (and the consequent emissions reduction) of average 30%, which translates into a payback period of less than 5 years (never reached before). They will integrate their system onto three customers‘ vessels in 2019 and 2020, positioning themselves as leaders of auxiliary wind propulsion for the global maritime industry.
Grandperspective
Overview
Company: Grandperspective
Location: Berlin
Website: www.grandperspective.de
Short description
Grandperspective´s mission is to define new standards in monitoring hazardous gases. The solution is gas monitoring from a distances. They identify, locate and quantify gases from kilometres away. Not only a specific gas, but we distinguish hundreds of different gases at the same time. Grandperspective can be used for remote ship exhaust measurement regarding the 2020 global sulphur limit.
Their optical remote sensing systems identify and quantify many different gases from long distances. They measure the ratio of SO2 to CO2 in the exhaust plume of any bypassing or docked ships. From the ratio of these to gases we can tell the content of sulphur in the ship fuel.
